Short-term missions: Every two years Ama hosts a short-term mission project. These projects give young people (ages 15 and up) and the opportunity to expand their mind and open their worldview to the way people in other parts of the world. The projects focus on reaching the community through local partnerships that will continue the work after the trip.
Zapopan, Mexico, June 2018
In this trip, we brought 78 Americans to our neighbors in Mexico to help build a community center. Ama International raised almost $30,000 to complete the building structure, run electricity, put in a child’s bathroom, and put in a much- needed barricade to prevent accidents. We brought a full medical team with a Dr and treated over 500 people with medical care, addressing a variety of health concerns and distributed medications through our licensed pharmacist. Our community outreach activities were full of games, activities, and giveaways. We also gave out hundreds of toothbrushes and reusable feminine pads. The youth painted walls, played games with children, decorated classrooms, and participated in a variety of other service projects.
Guadalajara & Zapopan, Mexico, June 2020
In June of 2020, we will be traveling back to Guadalajara & Zapopan to serve the community and work in the Connection Center. This trip will be centered around serving the children. We will again offer medical & dental clinics, haircuts, carnivals for community outreach, and physical labor projects.
AMA INTERNATIONAL CONNECTION CENTER IN ZAPOPAN, MEXICO
Finish the space!
We recently raised the $1500 needed to install the windows and doors in the space and now need to finish the library space with louvered windows for ventilation that will prevent exposure to the elements. Once the exposure is addressed the library will be functional for the community. We also need to finish the flooring in the Connection Center which will cost around $500 to complete.
Cyber center installation!
Due to one of our generous donors we have a computer for the connection center which will be used for educational purposes in a classroom setting. It’s our vision to have a full cyber center with 10 computer stations in the space. We currently have a contract with Comprenew for 10 computers which include a mouse, keyboard, programming, and monitor for $50 each. We have 2 computers sponsored already and only need 8 more! We also would love to get an office-grade printer for students to print homework and other documents. Last, we will need a server room to support the cyber center and will need all the wiring, servers, and routers for that as well.
It is a specific goal that we develop and ed-tech program at the connection center, teaching the children computer skills that will open up all kinds of opportunities for them.
Sponsors for children!
We are just about ready to begin enrolling children into the program and we are looking for monthly sponsors to support the children in the program. It costs about $1 a day to support a child in the program, so our sponsorship is $30 per month. You will receive a picture of your child and be able to send gifts and letters to your child. We will also communicate with pictures and videos.
In 2019, Ama International Inc. will be partnering with a Mexican mission team to bring aid, medical care, and a library to the small village of Santa Maria Xadani, Oaxaca. This area of Mexico is in extreme need due to tragic earthquakes and severe poverty. December 1-7th a team of skilled mission workers from team Ama will travel there connecting with the local community to bring a sustainable impact.
